Clearly we live in a very individualistic society. The word individual is synonymous with person, and person with individual.
But what if part was synonymous with person? It sounds odd at first, but someone from a communal culture might think individual sounds just as odd (why would we call a person "individual" when they're a part?) An entire shift in thinking and personal responsibility occurs when person means the same as part. It's not individual responsibility anymore, it's partial responsibility, that is, responsibility the person has as a part.
And what is that person a part of?
